Next month: Events in Vilnius in December 2026
1 November is All Saints' Day and 2 November is All Souls' Day, officially the Day of Commemoration of the Dead and known in Lithuanian as Vėlinės. Both are public holidays in Lithuania. In 2026, 1 November is a Sunday and 2 November a Monday.
It is a quiet, reflective time: many families travel to their hometowns, visit relatives' graves and light candles, and after dark the cemeteries glow with thousands of them. Vilnius is calmer on those days, though roads near cemeteries are busy, and shops, museums and offices may open shorter hours or close. Check opening hours before you go.
November is dark and cold: it gets dark around 4 to 5 pm, so most events move indoors. It is the season for theatre, concerts and exhibitions, alongside quiz nights, stand-up and film screenings.
23 November is Lithuanian Armed Forces Day, a commemorative day but not a day off. Late in the month the city starts decorating for Christmas, and the Christmas market season usually begins in late November or early December. The organizers announce the exact dates.
The list keeps growing through the month, because hosts publish some events only shortly before the date, so check back. If you plan something for 1 or 2 November, check that the event is on and plan your trip: traffic near cemeteries is heavy and public transport may run on a holiday timetable.
