Christmas in Vilnius with kids 2026: shows, Santa and free things
Bonder · Published
Christmas in Vilnius with kids starts on Saturday 28 November 2026, when the tree on Cathedral Square is lit for free. The same day the free Christmas Town market (until 27 December), the carousel (until 6 January) and the Christmas train (until 3 January) open beside it. The Town Hall Square ice rink follows on 29 November. As of 20 October this guide lists 17 paid events for children and families, from 10.20 EUR: shows after which Santa hands out presents, three Nutcrackers, concerts, arena shows and the Lumina light park. We found no permanent Santa residence in Vilnius itself.
Scope: this is a snapshot taken on 20 October, not a census of every event in the city. It covers paid events in Vilnius that are made for children or billed as family events, plus Christmas ballets and daytime concerts with no age limit. Each production counts once, however many times it is shown. Not all of them are about Christmas: the ballet “Užburtos akys”, “Pelėda Drūlija 3” and the “Alice” circus show are simply children’s events in the season. The city attractions and Pakruojis Manor are not in the count. Prices are the cheapest standard ticket on 20 October; bilietai.lt prices exclude the booking fee.
What can you do with kids for free at Christmas in Vilnius?
The tree lighting and the Christmas Town market on Cathedral Square are free. Prices for the carousel, the Christmas train and the ice rink in 2026 have not been announced yet: the city’s full “Kalėdos sostinėje” (Christmas in the Capital) programme is due on 12 November.
- Christmas tree lighting: Saturday 28 November in the evening on Cathedral Square (Katedros aikštė), free. The 2026 start time has not been announced; in 2025 the ceremony began at 19:00. The tree stays up until 6 January.
- Christmas Town (Kalėdų miestelis), the Vilnius Christmas market on Cathedral Square: 28 November to 27 December, free entry. Opening hours: Monday to Wednesday 12:00 to 20:00, Thursday 12:00 to 21:00, Friday and Saturday 12:00 to 22:00, Sunday 11:00 to 20:00; 24 December 11:00 to 17:00, 25 and 26 December 12:00 to 21:00.
- Christmas carousel: a two-storey carousel next to the market on Cathedral Square, 28 November to 6 January. The 2026 price has not been announced.
- The Most Christmassy Days (Kalėdiškiausios dienos): 12 and 13 December. The city says this year’s format will differ from 2025, with the programme due in mid-November. On the Most Christmassy Day, 13 December 2025, four things were free: the rink (10:00 to 12:00), the train (10:00 to 12:59), the carousel (13:00 to 15:59) and a Santa residence at Trakų g. 10 (13:30 to 15:30).
- The Slowest Christmas Marathon: Saturday 12 December, 12:00, starting on Cathedral Square, free to take part. The shortest walking route, with Christmas stops along the way, is 3 km.
Vilnius Christmas train 2026
The little Christmas train (Kalėdų traukinukas) runs from 28 November to 3 January inclusive. The stop is next to Cathedral Square, by the Interior Ministry building at Šventaragio g. 2, and the train loops through the Old Town along Šventaragio, Pilies, Didžioji, Šv. Jono and Universiteto streets and back. Hours: Monday to Thursday and Sunday 12:00 to 20:00, Friday and Saturday 11:00 to 22:00, 24 December 11:00 to 20:00. The timetable will be published from 12 November; the 2026 fare has not been announced. In 2025 one loop took about 20 minutes and the train carried more than 12,000 passengers.
Ice skating with kids on Town Hall Square
The Christmas ice rink “Vilniaus ledas” on Town Hall Square (Rotušės aikštė) opens with a celebration on 29 November and runs until 25 January: Monday to Thursday and Sunday 10:00 to 22:00, Friday and Saturday 10:00 to 23:15. Sessions last 45 minutes and places are limited. 2026 prices have not been announced. For comparison, in 2025 a child under 14 paid 4 EUR with their own skates or 6 EUR with rented skates, and adults 6 or 8 EUR. Children under 5 skated free, and the first two sessions of each day were free.

Book children’s shows early. On 20 October the “with Santa” performances of “Raganiukės žiemos pasaka” on 17, 18 and 21 December were already sold out; seats were left on 11 and 22 December at 10:00. Bilietai.lt showed 26 tickets left for “Pelėda Drūlija 3” that day.
Where can kids meet Santa in Vilnius in 2026?
We found no permanent Santa residence in Vilnius itself for 2026: on 20 October there was none among the announced dates of the city’s “Kalėdos sostinėje” programme or on the ticket sellers’ lists. The full city programme comes out on 12 November, so a one-day residence may still appear, as it did on the Most Christmassy Day in 2025. This year Santa is already confirmed at Raganiukė Theatre. All the options:
- Raganiukė Theatre (S. Stanevičiaus g. 24): Santa (Kalėdų senelis) hands out presents after “Raganiukės žiemos pasaka. Su Kalėdų seneliu” (11 to 22 December on weekdays at 10:00 or 12:00, from age 4), “Trys paršeliai pasitinka Kalėdas. Su seneliu” (14 and 15 December, from 3) and “Kalėdų senis ir Besmegenis. Su Kalėdų seneliu” (Saturday 19 December at 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00, from 3). You can buy a present from the theatre or bring your own, labelled with the child’s first and last name and handed in at the theatre café before the show. Presents are limited. The 16 December show “Raudonkepurė ir vilkas. Su seneliu” is already sold out. The theatre publishes its show pages in Lithuanian only.
- “Kalėdos ant ragų” (30 December, 18:30, Arena Vilnius): a musical show in which Santa and the elves search for Rudolph the missing reindeer, with Julius Žalakevičius as Santa. It is a stage show, not a meeting with each child.
- The Most Christmassy Days (12 to 13 December): on 13 December 2025 a free Santa residence opened at Trakų g. 10 (13:30 to 15:30). The city says the 2026 format will differ, and the programme has not been published.
- Tymo turgus market in Užupis: from 19 to 21 December 2025 the artists’ association MENUPĖ held a Christmas art fair with a Santa residence. Parents handed a present to an elf beforehand, and Santa gave it to their child. The 2026 fair has not been announced.
- Vilnius Grand Resort (Ežeraičiai, Vilnius district): on New Year’s Eve it runs a children’s pyjama party (19:30 to 23:30, 65 EUR per child) with a visit from Santa with presents at 23:15. Children up to 5 must stay with a parent or another supervising person aged at least 14.
- Santa at home: on 20 October the Lithuanian services directory paslaugos.lt listed 67 Santa performers in Vilnius, with rates of 90 to 200 EUR an hour (124 EUR on average). We have not assessed these providers.
Christmas Kingdom at Pakruojis Manor
The only Santa residence already announced for 2026 that we found is at Pakruojis Manor (Pakruojo dvaras), roughly 2.5 hours by car from Vilnius. The manor promises kilometres of lights, plenty of Christmas trees, craft workshops (wool, beekeeping, historical costumes and 19th-century photography) and a Santa residence where more than one Santa will meet young guests. The programme is still being prepared.
- Dates: 5 to 6 December, 11 to 13 December and every day from 18 December to 3 January.
- Hours: the manor park opens Monday to Thursday and Sunday 12:00 to 18:30, Friday and Saturday 12:00 to 19:30; the page gives no separate hours for the Christmas Kingdom.
- Price on 20 October: adults 16 EUR; children from 6, students, seniors and disabled visitors 12 EUR; children up to 5 free. Each ticket carries a 0.80 EUR administration fee. These are early-bird prices (“first tickets”, marked “iki 11.01”, until 1 November), so later tickets may cost more.
Is The Nutcracker on for kids in Vilnius in 2026?
Not at the national opera: the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (LNOBT) has no Nutcracker (Spragtukas) in its November and December 2026 programme on opera.lt. Vilnius has three other Nutcrackers this December:
- Raganiukė Theatre’s children’s “Spragtukas”, from age 4: a musical show of colour and movement after E. T. A. Hoffmann’s tale, about 50 minutes. On 18 December at 18:30 and 31 December at 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00 (also 2 January at 12:00), from 15.60 EUR.
- The Nutcracker ballet with the Ukrainian Classical Ballet, Sunday 20 December at 18:00, Compensa concert hall: two 50-minute acts with an interval of about 30 minutes, ending at about 20:15. No age limit, children up to 5 free when sitting on an adult’s lap. From 29.60 EUR.
- The Nutcracker ballet with the Ukrainian Classical Etoile Ballet (the “World Classics” series), Friday 25 December at 20:00, Compensa: about 2 hours 30 minutes with an interval, children up to 7 free without their own seat. From 29 EUR. It ends around 22:30, late for small children.
Is there a Christmas light park in Vilnius?
There is a light park, but it is not billed as a Christmas one: Lumina, in the Vilnius University Botanical Garden at Kairėnai (Kairėnų g. 43), has a cinema theme this year (“Kino magija”). We found no event in Vilnius called a “Christmas light park”.
- Dates: 24 October to 22 February.
- Hours: from mid-November, 16:30 to 22:00 on Thursdays to Sundays, and every day from 17 to 23 December and from 25 December to early January. Last entry at 21:00. The site gives two slightly different schedules (for example, a start on 12 or 13 November) and does not say clearly whether the park opens on 24 December, so check before you go.
- Price on 20 October: standard 16.90 EUR; reduced 14.40 EUR (children under 18, school pupils, students, pensioners); family ticket for 3 people 45 EUR, for 4 people 57.80 EUR. Children up to 3 (inclusive) go free.
- The family ticket for 3 covers 2 adults and 1 child or 1 adult and 2 children; for 4, 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children (children aged 4 to 18).
- Card payment only for tickets, snacks and drinks, no cash. Online tickets are valid only for the chosen day, and pets are not allowed.
Day trips with kids at Christmas: Pakruojis and Trakai
The Pakruojis Manor Christmas Kingdom described above is the longest trip, roughly 2.5 hours each way by car, so it suits a weekend or the holidays (the manor is open every day from 24 to 27 December). Trakai, about 30 km from Vilnius, is closer:
- The Trakai Christmas tree was lit on 28 November 2025 at 18:00; the 2026 date has not been announced.
- In 2025 the rail operator LTG Link ran decorated Christmas trains on the Vilnius to Trakai line as well (20 November to 11 January); the 2026 Christmas trains have not been announced.
- Trakai History Museum lists winter opening hours (December to February) of Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00; holiday hours and 2026 Christmas activities are not on its website yet. In 2024 free Christmas workshops ran at the Peninsula Castle towers at weekends until Christmas.
What do kids’ Christmas events cost, and when do small children go free?
The free attractions are listed at the top of this guide. Among paid events on 20 October, the cheapest are “Stebuklų metas” (10.20 EUR) and “Žvėrių karnavalas” (from 12 EUR). Raganiukė Theatre shows start at 14.60 EUR, the Nutcracker ballets at 29 EUR and the shows at Arena Vilnius at 32 EUR. Rules for small children differ a lot:
| Event | Free entry | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Raganiukė Theatre shows | No | Every child needs a ticket, even on a lap |
| Dinozauro Kalėdos | No | Every child needs a ticket |
| Kalėdos ant ragų | Up to 2 (inclusive) | Without a seat, with proof of age |

| Town Hall Square ice rink | 2025: under 5 | 2026 prices not announced yet |
Which Christmas shows suit which age?
We give an age only where the organizer states one. At Raganiukė Theatre “N-3” means the show is for children from 3.
- Toddlers: “Pelėda Drūlija 3” (29 November) is recommended for ages 1 to 10. From age 3: “Dinozauro Kalėdos” (14 December), “Trys paršeliai pasitinka Kalėdas” (14 and 15 December), “Kalėdų senis ir Besmegenis” (19 December) and “Raudonkepurė per Kalėdas” (26 December). Under 3s go free at the Lumina light park.
- Ages 4 to 8: besides the shows from age 3, “Raganiukės žiemos pasaka” and Raganiukė Theatre’s “Spragtukas” are from 4. The LNOBT ballet “Užburtos akys” is for ages 5 to 12 (1 hour 40 minutes with an interval).
- Ages 9 to 12: only “Užburtos akys” (up to 12) and “Pelėda Drūlija 3” (up to 10) name this age. The others name no age for it but have no age limit: Home Alone Live in Concert, both Nutcracker ballets at Compensa, the “Alice” circus show and “Kalėdos ant ragų”.
Christmas workshops for kids in Vilnius
On 20 October almost no 2026 dates or prices had been published for Christmas workshops for children in Vilnius. What we know:
- On the Most Christmassy Day in 2025, Hales market (Halės turgus) ran free Christmas workshops for the whole family from 10:00 to 15:00, with registration. The programme for the 2026 Most Christmassy Days (12 and 13 December) comes out in mid-November.
- Interactive shows: in “Raudonkepurė per Kalėdas” (26 December) children who want to can go on stage, put on costumes and act, and “Stebuklų metas” (19 December) gets children moving, counting and dancing with the actors.
- Outside Vilnius: the Pakruojis Manor Christmas Kingdom will have craft workshops, and Trakai History Museum has not announced 2026 Christmas activities yet.
Which events work if your kids don’t speak Lithuanian?
- In English: Home Alone Live in Concert (19 December) shows the film in English with Lithuanian subtitles.
- No words needed: the ballets (“Užburtos akys” and both Nutcracker ballets at Compensa), the “Alice” circus show, the Lumina light park, the Christmas train, the carousel and the rink.
- In Lithuanian: “Dinozauro Kalėdos”, “Pelėda Drūlija 3” and “Kalėdos ant ragų” state Lithuanian as the language; Raganiukė Theatre does not name a language but publishes its show pages in Lithuanian only.
What to know before you go: darkness, cold, transport and the holidays
- It is dark by about 16:00. In December the sun sets in Vilnius between 15:51 and 16:01 (earliest from 11 to 17 December). So you can see the tree, the market and the Lumina park after dark early in the evening.
- Dress warmly. According to LHMT, Lithuania’s weather service, the average December temperature in Vilnius is -2.0 °C, and there is snow on the ground on about 17 December days on average, so a white Christmas is not guaranteed.
- Transport. During the 2025 tree lighting, public transport in Vilnius was free from 15:00 to 24:00, and T. Vrublevskio, Šventaragio and B. Radvilaitės streets were closed to cars from 17:00 to 24:00; the 2026 arrangements have not been announced. Buses 18 and 38 from Antakalnio žiedas and bus 114 from Antakalnio žiedas or Klinikos go to the Lumina park. In 2025 a free Christmas bus ran around the city from 5 December until New Year; it has not been announced for 2026.
- The holidays. 24 December (Kūčios, Christmas Eve, a Thursday), 25 and 26 December are public holidays in Lithuania, so with Sunday that makes four days off. In 2025 buses and trolleybuses ran on weekend and holiday timetables on those days, and the big supermarket chains were closed on 25 December.
- Be on time and bring ID for the kids. Raganiukė Theatre does not let latecomers in after the third bell. Where small children go free, proof of age is asked for at the door.
